Time lapse of radishes. 45 days to harvest.
I am a fourth generation farmer whose land and life are quickly being overcome by suburbia. Because of the encroachment I was inspired to create ‘lifecycles’ to collect and share the images from the most important daily process of agriculture, the growth of our produce. Using timelapse photography, I have begun the process of filming everything I grow, and inviting other farmers to do the same. The arranged short films show a single production cycle of each plant/tree. Ambient noises are taken from the farm and plants while growing, and the accompanying music is composed by musicians inspired by the footage. I invite you to watch your food grow, and better understand what an effort these plants undertake to make it to the marketplace and later to your tables. Thanks for your time, and I hope you enjoy watching them grow as much as I have.
Matt

Well Sundance 2010 has officially begun. The last couple days have been great, rushing around meeting new people and getting information about the project out there. My seed packet descriptions have been going like hotcakes, and so has the oranges and grapefruits. Some braver souls have grabbed some kale and squash. I have been pushing people to take the brocolli and carry it down the street with them, promting others to woder were the heck they got it and thus sending them to our installation in the basement of 333 main street. We will see if that works;) It has been snowing none stop here, so moving around is a little difficult. We have not gotten the chance to see too many movies yet, but we have met some wonderful artists and theoir incredible projects as a part of the New Frontiers programming.

My press materials came in yesterday. I have been working with a local company to design seed packets that have information on the lifecycles project as well as providing people with some seed and a printed time lapse of that plant for reference. They turned out beautifully. Now all I have to do is fill each of the packets (Squash, Lettuce, Chard, and Radish – 750 of each) with seed!!! Any volunteers? I figure these are better than business cards, and if people throw them out, they will be seeding a landfill somewhere…. (If you can’s see all of the image below, right click on it and open in a new window. I tried to post it as a smaller image, but it is hard to make out the text….and I am not terribly skilled at this yet so I appreciate your patience;)
